Rangers manager odds update: McInnes remains odds-on but David Moyes becomes 5/1 second favourite

Glasgow Rangers are still searching for their new manager, and David Moyes is the latest name to appear amongst the contenders for the Ibrox post.

According to bookmaker Sky Bet, there is a surprise new name amongst the contenders for the Rangers job as the Gers continue their search for Pedro Caixinha’s successor.

As he has been for much of the time since Caixinha’s departure was announced, Derek McInnes remains the odds-on favourite for the post, with Sky Bet listing the Aberdeen boss at 4/7 to take over at Ibrox.

Several of the other names seemingly in contention have also been present in the market for the much of the past week, with Alan Pardew (6/1), Walter Smith (7/1), Michel Preud’homme (8/1), Alex McLeish (10/1) and current caretaker Graeme Murty (12/1) all in contention.

But it is the new second favourite who will be of interest to the Light Blues as it is arguably a major surprise to see his name in contention, especially as he was listed at 22/1 earlier this week.

Sky Bet currently list David Moyes at 5/1 – and Rangers fans will need no telling as to why it would be a shock to see the 54-year-old become Caixinha’s permanent successor.

Moyes began his professional career across the city at Celtic, and was apparently wanted by the Hoops before they appointed Brendan Rodgers in 2016 – as reported by the Daily Mirror.

Moyes’ stock has fallen significantly since he was deemed worthy of being Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Manchester United in 2013, with the Scotsman doing poorly at Old Trafford, and subsequently failing to find any success with Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

And while his Premier League experience may make him a decent appointment for Rangers, there have surely got to be a lot of question marks surrounding whether he would be the right man to take them forward.
