Glasgow Rangers’ search for their new manager continues, and there is a new second favourite for the Ibrox post.
With Rangers’ 3-0 win over Patrick Thistle now in the books, the Gers hierarchy can surely concentrate much of their attention on trying to find Pedro Caixinha’s permanent successor. But who does bookmaker Sky Bet currently expect to be given the Ibrox post?
Derek McInnes remains the favourite, with Sky Bet listing the Aberdeen boss at 8/13. It is no surprise that McInnes remains at the top of the market, with The Sunday Post reporting today that the Gers will look to land the 46-year-old this week.
But there is some interesting movement behind McInnes in the market.
David Moyes became the shock second favourite earlier this week – but the former Celtic man has moved out slightly, now being listed at 8/1 alongside Alan Pardew.
Instead, it is current caretaker Graeme Murty who is now McInnes’ nearest rival, with Sky Bet listing the retired defender at just 4/1.
Of course, Murty’s performance in his two spells as caretaker have surely done his chances of landing the job permanently wonders – with this latest stint reaping two wins out of two with six goals scored and just one conceded.
It would appear that the number of names who are considered genuine contenders is decreasing – which may perhaps be a sign that the Gers are closing in on identifying their main targets for the post.
Walter Smith (12/1), Michel Preud’homme (14/1), Alex McLeish (14/1) and Alex Neil (20/1) all appear to be too far back right now to be put in the same bracket as McInnes and Murty when it comes to how seriously they may be considered. But, of course, those odds could easily change drastically as Rangers step up the chase.
