Derek McInnes remains the comfortable odds-on favourite for the Glasgow Rangers job, but a new contender for the Ibrox post has emerged.
Aberdeen boss McInnes appears to almost be nailed on for the job, in the betting market at least, but there has been a quick shift in the market over the last 24 hours with Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst becoming the second favourite.
The Dutchman was listed at 16/1 yesterday, but Sky Bet now list the 42-year-old at 11/4, well clear of current caretaker Graeme Murty (14/1) and the fourth favourite Sam Allardyce, who is listed at 18/1.
Though van Bronckhorst’s side have made a disappointing start to the season in the Eredivisie – they currently sit sixth in the table 12 points behind current leaders PSV Eindhoven – he has enjoyed success during his time with the club.
He guided Feyenoord to the title last season and the KNVB Cup the year before, so he has got a good record for someone who has only been a senior manager for the last two years.
And with the retired midfielder knowing full well what the expectation at Ibrox would be like – he spent three years with the Gers as a player – he may be a great appointment if the odds are a sign that something may be in the offing, though McInnes remains the overwhelming favourite.
