Glasgow Rangers’ search for their new manager continues, but who do the bookies think could take the job at Ibrox?
There were some interesting developments in Rangers’ search for their new manager on Monday, with the Daily Mail not only reporting that Alan Pardew is in contention for the Ibrox post, but also suggesting that Michel Preud’homme was not being considered a genuine contender for the job.
The Daily Record reported on Sunday that Preud’homme’s agent had held talks with the Scottish Premiership giants, and he would take the job if asked – but the Mail is now suggesting that that is not the case, and that Pardew has entered the frame having been out of work since leaving Crystal Palace in December.
The Mail adds however, that Derek McInnes remains the Light Blues’ top target, and that is reflected in the betting market from Sky Bet, who list the Aberdeen boss as the 4/6 favourite to succeed Pedro Caixinha.
Walter Smith is second favourite currently, but has drifted out slightly, having gone from 7/2 to 9/2 since yesterday.
Pardew comes in as third favourite at 6/1, but interestingly, he is only just ahead of Preud’homme (7/1), so perhaps the latter’s name is not being thrown off the table entirely at this stage.
Alex McLeish has moved out to 9/1, while Graeme Murty’s odds have halved overnight, as he has gone from 20/1 to 10/1 sixth favourite on Sky Bet, leaving him well clear of David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Kevin Muscat (all 22/1).
