Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Alfredo Morelos will rejoin his squad next week after returning to Scotland following Colombia’s Copa America campaign – while Ryan Jack should step up his return in a “few weeks” after surgery.

The Gers go into this weekend’s Scottish Premiership opener against Livingston without the talismanic duo but the news that both could be back in the side soon will be well-received by Rangers fans.

While Jack’s return comes a little later than initially expected, the Scotland star’s addition to the squad will add even more competition to a packed midfielder at Ibrox.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s curtain-raiser, the Ibrox boss also confirmed there is unlikely to be any more new faces arriving at the club this summer – although he refused to close the door on more new signings completely.

We still have Ryan Jack to return, he has one more appointment in a few weeks to get the green light to fully return,” Gerrard said, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account.

“Alfredo will rejoin sometime next week so the squad is looking really strong. If there is not a need to add we won’t do it.”

Tomorrow’s clash with Livingston is followed quickly by the Champions League qualifier against Malmo next week.

The Light Blues are just a few games away from a huge windfall in Europe so Gerrard will know he can’t afford to take his eye off the ball in either game.

The imminent return of Morelos will be a big positive for Rangers and the fact that Gerrard seems to suggest he’s ready to go could mean he’s back in the side pretty quickly.
