Rangers’ managerial favourite Pedro Caixinha is a close associate of Jose Mourinho, who is renowned for his touchline antics.
Caixinha, now 1/10 on with SkyBet, is a very different character, and Rangers fans should expect a calmer and more measured approach on the sidelines.
This is because Caixinha regard keeping his emotions in check as an absolute priority, a stance which should stand him in good stead if he lands the most pressured role in Scottish club football.
He told Mexico’s Players of Life magazine in 2015: “I have definitely learned that it is vital to control my emotions, not to harm myself and the people around me.
“At work, in the family and in any field emotional intelligence is essential, something that we all have to work on.”
Rangers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season in which they sit 33 points behind rivals Celtic and occupy third place.
Another interesting nugget from Caixinha’s interview comes from his comments about how he views his players.
He said: “I see them as equals, mutual respect is always present, I consider myself as a big brother, I only seek to give them suggestions every day.
“To observe in detail the work of each one, to recognise their strengths, and to distinguish their areas of improvement for together find the best solution and continue to progress individually and collectively.”
He would be a contrast to appointing a more stern nosed boss like Billy Davies or Alex Neil, known for their more disciplinarian approaches.
Caixinha’s approach served him well in Mexico where he landed three trophies with unfancied Santos Laguna.
He is currently coaching Al Gharafa in Qatar, but the Rangers job presents a tremendous sporting challenge, and Caixinha may just have the temperament to handle it.
