The Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers hitman allegedly confronted a teenager this week.

James Tavernier has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that he can sympathise with team-mate Martyn Waghorn following his public incident this week.

The out-of-form striker appeared to confront a teenager boy in a school uniform earlier in the week after the 26-year-old was allegedly labelled as “s***e” by the kid.

The Rangers hitman has only netted once in nine Premiership outings this season, and has lost his place in the first XI to Joe Garner in recent weeks.

Waghorn, a summer signing in 2015, has been linked with a January move to Bristol City as a result of his Ibrox woes so far this season.

But Tavernier, who joined Rangers at the same time as the former Wigan marksman, told the club’s official YouTube channel that these things can happen in a city dominated by only two clubs.

“We get a lot of stick on social media and on the street you just try to blank it out,” he said.

“Sometimes you can react when things aren’t going well. It’s something little. We get stick – it comes with the job – and it’s just how you deal with it.”

Waghorn is unlikely to start Saturday’s visit of Dundee as Rangers look to pick up a victory in what has been a stop-start return to the Premiership.

He netted 28 times in all competitions last term, so he certainly knows where the goal is, but the English forward does seem to be struggling.
