Ibrox defender Fabio Cardoso is yet to impress in a Rangers shirt as of yet.

Fabio Cardoso of Rangers gestures during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers FC and Celtic FC at Ibrox Stadium on September 23, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso is reportedly interesting Portuguese outfit Estoril, but Graeme Murty’s side should only sell the summer signing on one condition.

Portuguese outlet A Bola claim, via the Daily Record, that the 23-year-old centre-back is on a shortlist of players the Liga Nos side are looking to buy, after losing Thiago Cardoso and Goncalo Brandao to long-term injuries.

Rangers’ number four has struggled to impress since being brought to Ibrox as one of an influx of signings made by former manager Pedro Caixinha, with Murty overlooking the defender in recent times.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Suffering a broken nose after being on the receiving end of a flying elbow from Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman during Rangers’ 2-0 loss to Motherwell in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, Cardoso has now lost his place in the Gers side.

Since then, Danny Wilson and Bruno Alves have combined to set up a decent partnership that has been crucial to the Light Blues’ run of form under Murty with the interim manager winning six of his nine games in charge.

The Daily Record report claims Cardoso signed for Rangers for a fee of £1.3million, and the Ibrox club should only sell the defender if Estoril are willing to pay a similar figure to land his signature.

Cardoso is worth more to Rangers than anything below that figure, as he has shown in glimpses that he can prove to be a decent buy. But if Estoril are willing to offer the Gers a chance to recuperate that outlay, then Murty should throw him on the scrapheap.

It would give the Gers room to manoeuvre in the January transfer market, offloading a player that is not in their starting eleven and being able to bring a player who can be. But only on that one condition, should Rangers cash in.
