Glasgow Rangers recently announced that Alfredo Morelos looks set to stay at Ibrox until 2022.

While Rangers made a number of big statements during the summer transfer window with the appointment of Steven Gerrard and the signings of numerous exciting players, it is perhaps fair to say that one of their biggest statements so far was the recent contract extension that the club agreed with Alfredo Morelos.
Morelos’ future at Ibrox has been the subject of speculation for most of the time he has been with the Gers it seems. A ferocious start to life in the first-team quickly made everyone sit up and take notice and his impressive goals return from his first season reportedly led to bids coming in.
According to Colombian outlet Liga Deportiva, Marseille saw a seven-figure offer rejected in the final days of the window. And Rangers celebrated the passing of the deadline by announcing that they had agreed a new contract with the striker that is set to run until 2022.
It is a major statement of intent from the Light Blues. Morelos is a huge talent. He may endure lengthy periods without a goal, but he has shown repeatedly that he can be lethal, and he is only going to get better as he gets older and gains more experience.

It is also difficult to imagine that the quality that Rangers have added all over the pitch this summer will not benefit him enormously. So keeping him and getting him to agree a contract is a fantastic piece of business.
Some players may have been tempted by Marseille, who reached the Europa League final last year. And while he could not force Rangers to accept the bid, he could have made his frustration clear by pulling the plug on any contract talks.
So the fact that he has agreed a new long-term deal is a sign that he sees the potential at Rangers, which should provide another boost to Gerrard’s men after an incredibly encouraging few months.
