Webber transformed Huddersfield Town and he could repeat the feat at Norwich City.

Slowly but surely, the pieces are fitting together for Rangers. Pedro Caixinha is the ambitious, forward-thinking coach required to embark on a new era while talks are undergoing to supplement his coaching staff with the knowledge of a club hero a la Barry Ferguson or John ‘Bomber’ Brown.

As it stands, however, the Ibrox giants appear no closer to finally appointing a Director of Football to help the club thrive in the transfer market despite financial restrictions, the Daily Mail reports.

Stuart Webber, Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football operations, would have been ideal. Instead, however, he could take up the role at Norwich City instead, ITV reports. And you could perhaps see why he’d choose the Canaries over Rangers.

When Webber arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium in the summer of 2015, The Terriers had just finished in 15th place.

Less than two years on, they are third and on the march to the Premier League thanks to a successful influx of loanees, free signings and cheap additions. Overall, Aaron Mooy, Elias Kachunga (below) , Christopher Schindler, Izzy Brown and co arrived for a combined fee of £3 million, according to Transfermarkt.

However, after two seasons working under a restrictive budget, the chance to spread his wings at a Norwich side never afraid to splash the cash may well appear rather enticing.

While Rangers were attempting to mould a competetive team out of out-of-contract has-beens and unproven youngsters, Norwich fuelled their promotion ambitions by spending big on the likes of Sergi Canos and Yanic Wildschut.

However, with Wildschut yet to impress and Canos having left for Brentford after just six months and three appearances, it seems The Canaries are in need of a canny transfer market operator to ensure their funds don’t go to waste.

And that’s without mentioning the disappointing additions of Timm Klose, Steven Naismith, Matt Jarvis, Yussuf Mulumbu and Patrick Bamford (below) last season, failing to prevent Norwich tumbling out of the Premier League yet again.

Overall, while Rangers remains an intriguing project, the financial restrictions at Ibrox and the prospect of work under the tight-fisted chairman in Dave King mean Webber appears to have a much greater chance of success at Carrow Road.

Furthermore, even if Rangers would benefit from Webber’s astute use of the transfer market, it seems that second place behind Celtic remains something of a glass ceiling and a limit to the club’s hopes.

At Norwich, the scope for success is much larger.
