Chris Sutton has taken aim at Barry Ferguson on Twitter after the Rangers legend chose to stand by his comments that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has got Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou “sussed” – despite a 4-0 loss to Celtic on Saturday.
The Hoops eased to a victory at Parkhead on Saturday, largely thanks to a stunning first-half display. Liel Abada scored twice, while Jota got another. Then, late on, David Turnbull added insult to injury by scoring a fourth for Postecoglou.
Speaking ahead of the first Old Firm derby of the 2022-23 campaign, Ferguson suggested that van Bronckhorst had the Celtic manager “sussed”. Despite the 4-0 win over van Bronckhorst’s Rangers, Ferguson stood by his comments.
He claims on the Record that it was not a case of van Bronckhorst not knowing how Celtic were going to play. But it was simply that the Rangers players switched off in key moments: “I stand by what I said in the build up to the match.
“Gio knew exactly how Celtic were going to go about their business on Saturday. But what is the manager supposed to do when his players take it in turns to switch off at key moments? Three times in the space of the first 45 minutes?”
Sutton, though, was having none of it on Twitter on Monday morning. He responded to Ibrox icon Ferguson, by saying he is making it “worse” by defending his comments rather than admitting the Rangers legend was wrong.

It was a brutally bad performance from Rangers. Coming into the game, Celtic were always going to be favourites given their early-season form. And that they had home advantage. But Rangers have been excellent at times, too.
Indeed, Rangers came into the game after securing a place in the Champions League group stages. But Celtic ran them riot. Postecoglou’s side were like a steam train going full pelt at Rangers, who looked lethargic. Celtic were on it.
Ferguson does make some sense. It was not a case of getting his tactics completely wrong, but it was that Rangers made mistakes. Tactics cannot prevent mistakes. But Celtic forced those mistakes and more should have been done.
