Glasgow Rangers striker Ryan Hardie has left the door open for a potential return to Ibrox in January?

In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Ryan Hardie has suggested that the door to return to Rangers in January is open as the Gers prepare for talks with Livingston.

The Scottish Sun reported in the summer that Hardie had joined Livi on a season-long loan deal. But his form since returning from injury has left many of the Ibrox faithful hoping that Steven Gerrard is able to recall him next month.

Hardie has scored four goals in his last three starts in the Scottish Premiership. But while the reports previously suggested that he was set to spend the entire season with Gary Holt’s side, the youngster has hinted that the two clubs need to have talks, with staying at Livi only an option at this stage.

“There are still discussions to be had,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “I’m here until January for now and there was an option to extend, so we are just going through the process and seeing what is best for me.

“I want to play as many games as I can. I want to be playing and scoring goals, whether that’s at Rangers or Livingston, I don’t mind. I haven’t spoken to Steven Gerrard since I came here. I have just been concentrating on doing what I do best and that’s trying to score goals.”

Deciding whether to bring Hardie back has arguably become a bit of a dilemma for Gerrard. His form suggests that he could make an impact for the Gers, especially when Rangers do need more depth up front.

However, he is only just back from a long-term injury. Perhaps the more sensible option would be to let him stay out on loan for the campaign where he is more likely to get game-time.

And if he manages to put together anything like this current run over a sustained period, then Rangers have to reward him with a new deal and some game-time next season.
