Glasgow Rangers forward Joe Dodoo has not made the best start to life away from Ibrox, but perhaps he has handed himself a lifeline.

It does appear that Joe Dodoo is probably going to have to do a lot more than most of the Rangers players currently out on loan if he hopes to stand a chance of forcing his way into Steven Gerrard’s plans upon his return to Ibrox.
Dodoo has never quite managed to show enough of his potential – there have certainly been glimpses – and many of the Gers fans are probably not expecting to see the forward appear back in the fold once his loan spell at Blackpool ends.
Unfortunately for Dodoo, his spell with the Tangerines has hardly started in particularly impressive fashion with one goal coming in his first seven appearances. He has featured once in League One since the start of September.
But perhaps Dodoo has handed his Blackpool spell a real lifeline with his latest appearance – that came in the Lancashire Senior Cup on Tuesday as Pool took on Wigan Athletic.

It is not a competition that most Blackpool fans will have their eye on, and there may not be too many key first-team players who feature, but with first-team boss Terry McPhillips taking charge of Tuesday’s clash, it was a fantastic opportunity for Dodoo to catch the manager’s eye ahead of Saturday’s game against Rochdale.
And Dodoo took full advantage of the chance as he scored what proved to be the winning goal in a 2-1 win for the League One side.

The header is not going to be a turning point in Dodoo’s Blackpool spell on its own, but perhaps it could be the foot in the door he needs as the fixtures start to come thick and fast over the coming months.
And if he can now come back from his underwhelming start with the club, then perhaps there is a chance that he may enjoy the kind of spell that leaves him with some confidence ahead of his return to Rangers.
