Rangers’ forgotten Scottish Premiership goalkeeper Jak Alnwick is stuck in the League One relegation zone with Scunthorpe United.
With Scunthorpe United needing a win to leap out of the relegation zone, the last thing they needed was to find themselves three goals down 15 minutes into Saturday’s clash with Bradford City at Glanford Park.
Scunthorpe did manage to pull two goals back after the interval but it wasn’t enough. A 3-2 home defeat means The Iron are now second from bottom in the League One table.
And they need a miracle now if they are to survive with just one game remaining. They need to win away at relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle, who are two places and one points higher in the table, on the final day to stand any chance of pulling off the great escape.
Scunthorpe will certainly be hoping goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has a better afternoon on the South Coast.
The Rangers loanee, who joined on loan last summer, could have done better with two of Bradford’s three first-half efforts, particularly the second. Alnwick, a former Newcastle United youngster, got hands to Jermaine Anderson’s long-range effort but failed to stop it from creeping into the corner.
And unless he produces an inspired display next weekend, the Rangers goalkeeper will be returning to Ibrox with his reputation far from enhanced and a relegation on his CV.
