Rangers flop Carlos Pena has left Ibrox on loan and been warned not to waste the opportunity.
27-year-old Carlos Pena should be at the peak of his powers right now, heading into a World Cup year for the Mexican national team.
Instead the Rangers midfielder is having to rebuild his career after a torrid time at Ibrox.
He has been sent out on loan by the Gers, back to Mexico to pay under Pedro Caixinha. It is likely he will never play for Rangers again.
Pena has been warned not to waste his chance at Cruz Azul, as if he fails, there may not be another high profile opportunity left for him.
Quizzed about the Rangers midfielder’s loan signing, Rodriguez said: “I thought the arrival was fine.
“He is a player who need to concentrate a bit, but he is a player who can contribute to the team if he is committed and aware of the responsibility of putting on the shirt of La Maquina.
“I think going abroad gave him a motivation, I think he has great quality and he has to take advantage of this opportunity because it could be the last.”
It is a dire warning for Pena, but it might provide the pressure he needs to put on himself to focus and succeed.
Pena showed flashes of inspiration at Rangers, but at times looked lost and disinterested, and he may appreciate being back in his homeland after a spell away at Ibrox.
