Rangers and Liverpool both want to sign Fleetwood Town defender James Hill – and he has been tipped for the very top of the game.
Hill, the son of former Preston North End defender Matt Hill, is making great strides at Fleetwood.
The centre back has not only excelled in League One, but now has an England Under-20 cap to his name as well.
Hill, 19, could now end up far exceeding his father in terms of the level he ends up playing at in the future.
Rangers and Liverpool chase Hill
The report claims that Rangers want to sign Hill, but they face massive competition from clubs in England.
Liverpool and Manchester United are keen, as are Burnley and Southampton as Hill makes strides.
A right-footed centre back, Hill is small but athletic and has shown a strong reading of the game, pointing towards a bright future.
Pilley comments on Hill
Fleetwood owner Andy Pilley has now offered his view on Hill.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror (10/10, p64), Pilley claims that Fleetwood know Hill is ‘destined for the very top’.
Pilley claims that Fleetwood have rejected three bids for Hill – one from Scotland and two from England.
Pilley added that most Premier League clubs are scouting Hill, and he will ultimately leave in 2022 – whether that’s January or the summer.
“We know he’s destined for the very top,” said Pilley. “He’s playing regularly in the first team and we believe this helps to get his dream move. We’re at a stage now where we’re literally having to decline scouting request because we’ve virtually got the entire Premier League coming along to watch him.”
“There were two Premier League clubs who made bids for James and there was also a bid from the Scottish Premier League. I wouldn’t like to say who the club were, but unfortunately the bids weren’t of sufficient numbers. It might be that he goes in January, but he’s going to go at the end of the season unless he signs a new contract.”
“It was only just 12 months ago there was talk of him going on loan to the non-league. But he’s made enormous progress and it’s clear that he has become an automatic choice in the starting XI.”
