Celtic swooped to sign Jack Hendry late on transfer deadline day, beating off late competition from rivals Rangers.

Right now it appears the Gers may have had a lucky escape with Hendry struggling for form.

Celtic fans hit out at Hendry’s form over the weekend, insisting he should have stayed at Dundee and fear the club have made a mistake with his signing.

Had Rangers signed Hendry, it is unlikely he would be faring much better amid a team which were destroyed 4-0 by Celtic a week ago.

The Daily Record.reported on deadline day that Graeme Murty’s side were planning a late bid for Hendry as they sought to land the defender.

It may be too early to write the 23-year-old off, but based on Hendry’s performances so far, Rangers will not be upset they missed out.

Nonetheless Rangers still have a problem at centre-back which needs solving, with Bruno Alves in his mid-30s, David Bates heading to Hamburg, and loanee Russell Martin not doing enough to show he should earn a permanent deal from Norwich City.
