Speaking to talkSPORT, Jack Wilshere has been discussing his next move after seeing his contract with West Ham come to a mutual termination.
Journalist Nicolo Schira (via The Sun) revealed that Rangers were in advanced talks to sign the ex-Arsenal man, but his comments suggest he is far from moving to Ibrox.
Wilshere told talkSPORT: ‘ “I think I want to try something different – I am leaning towards that. Maybe La Liga, Italy, something a little bit different that not many English players have done. I am probably going to take a week or two to decide.’
These comments don’t bode well for Rangers’ hopes of signing him.
He mentions wanting to do something not many English players do, which isn’t a motive applicable to moving to Scotland.
In Rangers’ ranks alone, there are eight English players – Jermain Defoe, Ryan Kent, Brandon Barker, James Tavernier, Calvin Bassey, Connor Goldson, George Edmundson and Andy Firth.
Contrastingly, in Italy there are only two notable English players – Ashley Young and Chris Smalling. In Spain, there is just one in Kieran Trippier.

The England international saw his contract with West Ham end a year early, confirming that it was mutually terminated in a statement posted on Twitter.
In that statement, Wilshere reveals he’s been fully fit for the past eight months, and only wasn’t playing because David Moyes didn’t pick him.
There is no time limit on Rangers’ chances of signing the former Bolton and Bournemouth man. As he is a free agent, he can move to any club at any time.

One thing that might work in the Gers’ favour is the fact that Wilshere has previously worked with Steven Gerrard.
The pair played for England together under Roy Hodgson, so the Rangers boss will know all about this potential signing before he even gets him through the door at Ibrox.
However, his mentioning of Spain or Italy doesn’t bode well in our view.
