A rumoured Rangers target has been omitted from his manager’s matchday 18 for the second game running.

Steven Davis, the former Rangers midfielder who captains Southampton, was on the bench for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s second match in charge of the Saints, against Arsenal.

But the 33-year-old was nowhere to be seen against Huddersfield on Saturday, and again against West Ham on Thursday.

According to the Express, Davis is keen on a return to Rangers after the Gers cut short Ovie Ejaria’s loan spell at Ibrox.

And it does not appear that Southampton will stand in his way, should Steven Gerrard’s side try to do a deal.

Davis, who won three Premiership titles and five domestic cups as a Rangers player, is out of contract at the end of this season.
