Rangers reportedly want to bring Kieran Dowell to Ibrox in January.

Rangers are in the market for a creative midfielder in the January transfer window, and the latest name linked with the club is Everton’s Kieran Dowell.

The Gers have lacked creativity in midfield this season, and boss Steven Gerrard is now looking to solve that particular problem when the transfer window re-opens.

Now, The Mirror report that Gerrard wants to take Everton talent Kieran Dowell on loan in January, handing him playing time until the end of the season in a temporary deal.

Dowell, 21, has been one of Everton’s top young talents for some time now but is struggling for first-team football, and a move to Ibrox could be just what he needs in the second half of the campaign.

Rangers fans may not be too well up on Dowell, but two men who played a key role in Dowell’s development last season were Mark Warburton and David Weir; the ex-Rangers duo who coached Dowell at Nottingham Forest.

Fans may be keen to know what the duo thought of Dowell, and Warburton was a huge fan, telling Sky Sports that he feels Dowell is ‘gifted’ and ‘talented’, whilst also praising his defensive aspects even after a hat-trick against Hull City.

Dowell even revealed to the Liverpool Echo that he received key advice from Weir at the start of last season, having been told to make sure possession is safe in secure in his own half before going on to be free and creative going forward.

That would be key for Rangers under Gerrard, and whilst some fans may question Warburton’s judgement after a mixed spell as Ibrox boss, Dowell would surely be an exciting addition for Rangers in January.
