Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are reportedly keen on the 22-year-old defender this summer.

If John Souttar wants to join Rangers, he’s going the wrong way about it.

According to The Daily Record, Rangers are interested in signing the 22-year-old defender who, according to Team Talk, is valued at around £5 million.

Problem is, Souttar hasn’t been playing like a £5 million centre-back since the Ibrox links started earlier this month.

The Scotland international has posted a couple of dodgy performances in recent weeks and the same applied today.

Hearts drew 1-1 with Edinburgh rivals Hibernian at Easter Road and, well, Souttar has had better days, it must be said.

He improved in the second half, but the first half was something of a nightmare and here’s how fans – some of which were Gers – reacted to his display in the derby:

This erratic form makes you wonder whether Rangers will reconsider going for him. The reported price-tag might have given Steven Gerrard second thoughts anyway, but the numbers, combined with his form, is a concern.

That being said, he is clearly a major talent and, at 22, will get a lot better.
