Could Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers still re-sign their former player after all?

The Northern Echo reported in May that Rangers wanted to re-sign one of their former players.
Between 2009 and 2011, Dylan McGeouch was on Rangers’ books and Steven Gerrard has reportedly toyed with the idea of bringing him back to Ibrox.
That proposal seemed dead in the water earlier this week when it was revealed that Sunderland had triggered a one-year deal in the 26-year-old’s contract but, according to reports, he could still leave the Stadium of Light.
The Scottish Sun have written that the Black Cats could still offload the former Gers midfielder to finance transfers for other players this summer.
If true, and if Gerrard is really a fan, then perhaps the Scottish giants have a glimmer of hope.
After all, McGeouch would never have quit the light Blues if Walter Smith had his way.
Eight years ago, the Scot revealed that he ignored a plea from Smith to stay at Ibrox [Daily Record].
He would cross the Old Firm divide to join Celtic – his boyhood club – but if Rangers came knocking again, you wonder if he’d turn them down this time.
