Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has landed Guinea-Bisseau international Fernandy ‘Nando’ Mendy as his Alloa Athletic completed a double swoop this morning.
The Wasps also added goalkeeper David Hutton to their ranks as Ferguson bolsters his side ahead of their League One title challenge this season.
Ferguson worked with Mendy while at Kelty Hearts, signing him on loan from Raith Rovers, and his performances earned him his maiden international call up earlier this year, helping his country secure their place at the African Cup of Nations.
Having spent two years in Scotland after spells with Angers SCO and Racing Club Flechois in France, Mendy is a good addition to the Alloa squad by the Rangers icon.
Mendy will miss this afternoon’s Premier Sports Cup clash with his former side after having to quarantine following a trip to France but could make his debut against Peterhead in next weekend’s league opener.
Hutton, who has played for Aberdeen, Clyde, Queen of the South, Hamilton, Greenock Morton, Ayr United, Dunfermline, Arbroath, Airdrie and Brechin City in a lengthy career is free to face Raith this afternoon.
Since taking the reins at Alloa, Rangers legend Ferguson has wasted no time in adding new faces at the Indodrill Stadium.
Today’s signings take the number of additions to 12 as Ferguson aims to take Alloa back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
