Richard Gough has seemingly handed Rangers captain Lee Wallace a vote of confidence by insisting that the Gers do not need to go out and sign a new skipper this summer despite their need to find some more big personalities, the Evening Times reports.

But while almost every player’s future is likely to be debated amongst the Ibrox faithful, former Gers captain Gough has seemingly given his backing to the current skipper Wallace by insisting that the need for more leaders does not mean that a replacement to wear the armband is required.
“I don’t think we need a new captain,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times. “But big clubs need big personalities. To play successfully at a big club, you need to have a big personality. Rangers have lacked that this season.”
Rangers’ need for more leaders has arguably been heightened by the club’s decision to let Clint Hill leave the club this summer (via Daily Mail).
Hill may not have been a long-term fix for the defensive problems for the Gers, but there is no question that he was excellent during his one season with the Gers and appeared to be having an influence on the younger members of the squad, just as Kenny Miller appeared to be having further up the pitch.
But Gough appears to be confident that if they can sign more influential players during the coming months, Wallace will be more than capable of remaining their leader.
