Rangers manager Mark Warburton does not want to rush back Gers striker Martyn Waghorn.
Derek Johnstone has praised Rangers manager Mark Warburton in The Glasgow Evening Times.
Warburton was recently quoted as saying by The Glasgow Evening Times that he will not rush Martyn Waghorn back from injury.
Waghorn, who has scored as many as 28 goals in all competitions for the Gers so far this season, is out injured at the moment with a knee ligament problem.
With Rangers facing Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup next month, fans will be hoping to see 26-year-old striker return to action soon.
Warburton, though, is not willing to rush the former Sunderland and Leicester City man back into action, as reported by The Glasgow Evening Times earlier this week.
Johnstone, who played for Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s and is a club legend, is pleased with this attitude of the Gers boss.
“Following his knock picked up at Rugby Park last month, it will be a race against the clock for the forward to get back in time for the Old Firm match given he was expected to be out for eight weeks,” the former Scotland international wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“But I was reassured to hear Mark Warburton say he is not of the mind to rush Waghorn back. He isn’t putting any pressure on the player to get back for the game which is the right thing, although I have no doubt in my mind that he will want to play. But the lad will only play if he is 100 per cent fit. End of story.”
Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 69 points from 27 matches. The Gers are 12 points clear of second-placed Falkirk and have a game in hand.
