Rangers have Dominic Ball and Gedion Zelalem on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively at Ibrox.

Derek Johnstone has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that he has been impressed with the performance of Dominic Ball for Rangers so far this season.

Ball, who is just 20 years of age, joined Rangers on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2015.

The youngster is a talented and versatile player who can feature as a central defender, full-back or defensive midfielder.

Johnstone, who played for Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s and is a club legend, has been impressed with the performance of Ball for Mark Warburton’s side so far this campaign.

The former Scotland international has also offered his opinion on Gedion Zelalem, who has been on loan at Rangers from North London outfit Arsenal since the summer of 2015.

Johnstone believes that the 19-year-old midfielder has gone off the boil after a strong start at Ibrox.

“Gedion Zelalem came from Arsenal and looked a world-beater in the early stages as well, but he went off the boil a bit and has been troubled by injury,” Johnstone in The Glasgow Evening Times.

“Dominic Ball, on the other hand, has grown into the job. Rangers’ main problems this season have revolved around defensive issues, but I feel the side has looked a lot stronger when he has operated just in front of the back four.”

Rangers are at the top of the Scottish Championship table at the moment with 72 points from 29 matches, 11 points clear of second-placed Falkirk, who have played a game more.
