Rangers legend Mark Hateley insists the Light Blues have a stronger squad now than the one that romped to the Scottish Premiership title last season and thinks that the Gers’ form will return “without a shadow of a doubt”.

The Light Blues lost three games on the spin to start the season, losing to Malmo twice and Dundee United following an opening day win over Livingston, and ex-Rangers and England striker Hateley is confident things will turn around quickly for the Scottish champions.

A hard-fought 1-0 win over Alashkert last night in the Europa League done little to instil confidence in Gerrard’s side among supporters ahead of a crucial run of games in the next few weeks.

A trip to Ross County is followed by the return leg in Armenia then the first Old Firm game of the season at Ibrox at the end of the month.

With those games on the horizon, Hateley thinks the only thing the Rangers players can do is get on with it to “find that groove and build.”

“Steven and his backroom staff will be building brick by brick,” Hateley told BBC Scotland. “You just get on with it, get together, roll your sleeves up, find that groove and build.

“Right now, they’re stronger squad than last season. Form will come back without a shadow of a doubt.”

Hateley has experience of a similar situation at Rangers, being part of the side that only won two of their opening seven games in all competitions before lifting the title for a seventh successive season.

With Rangers heading to Ross County this weekend, it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Gerrard made wholesale changes to his starting XI in the Highlands.

As a number of the first-team regulars struggle to find their early season form, players like Scott Wright have shown they deserve a chance to start.
