Rangers forward Daniel Candeias received two yellow cards away at St Mirren last weekend.
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson admitted that he was shocked to see Daniel Candeias receive a second yellow card during their win over St Mirren last weekend, labelling it as a crazy decision by referee Willie Collum, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The Gers were already 2-0 up, so it mattered little, but the Portuguese is now suspended for their game against Motherwell tomorrow – something that will obviously be a real blow for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The 30-year-old has scored three goals for Rangers this season, but his creative nouse and guile in the final third has become extremely important to the manner in which Gerrard’s side play.
Ferguson spoke exclusively to the Daily Record about Candeias’ sending off against St Mirren last weekend, and labelled the decision as ‘crazy’, admitting that he was in shock when he saw it:
“I was shocked when I watched the Candeias booking it and thought it was a crazy decision. The second booking is inexplicable. It was ridiculous. He might have said something to Craig Samson or Anton Ferdinand as he ran past them but if that is what it’s for – and we don’t know – then it happens in football all the time.”
Rangers will surely have enough to still beat Motherwell without Candeias, but they will undoubtedly be weakened nevertheless.
