The former Rangers striker and manager has delivered his verdict on Murty’s chances of a full-time Ibrox deal.
Former Rangers striker and manager Ally McCoist was asked on Friday whether Graeme Murty has done enough to become the Ibrox side’s permanent boss.
Murty began his second spell as Rangers caretaker after Pedro Caixinha’s sacking last October, and was handed the role until the end of the season when a permanent successor could not be found.
The former Scotland defender has since won 13 of the 20 Premiership fixtures he has overseen, leading Rangers from fourth to second place and increasing his chances of landing the gig full time.
Sunday’s narrow Old Firm defeat caused some doubts to resurface, however, although McCoist has seen enough from Murty to warrant an extended contract.
“Well I would think so [he’s done enough],” McCoist told Talksport’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “It’ll be interesting the cup semi-final coming up [against Celtic], obviously,
“Two performances against Celtic have been of vast improvement, obviously the results haven’t been that good but the level of performance has been good.
“I think a lot will hinge on the performance in the semi-final, whether he gets the job full-time or not.”
The Old Firm cup semi-final is scheduled for less than a month’s time at Hampden Park, and according to the Scottish Sun, Rangers and Celtic are pencilled in to meet the following weekend in the league.
The Gers have failed to win a derby since their return to the top flight last season.
