Celtic have won eight of their last nine games since that Cluj horror show and moved top of the Scottish Premiership after beating Rangers at Ibrox.
Rangers legend Ally McCoist has admitted that he is worried about Celtic’s return to form in recent weeks, telling talkSPORT that the Scottish champions could get better and better in the months to come.
A matter of weeks ago, The Hoops were in crisis. Knocked out of the Champions League after a 4-3 home defeat to Cluj in the qualification stage, Celtic then lost star man Kieran Tierney and were struggling to reinforce a squad which suddenly looked a little vulnerable.
But things have changed in the blinking of an eye. After a strong end to the transfer window, the likes of Christopher Jullien, Mo Elyounoussi and Jeremie Frimpong already appear to have strengthened Neil Lennon’s ranks while a 2-0 win at Ibrox reinforced Celtic’s status as title favourites once again.
And McCoist, a former Rangers striker and manager, believes the likes of Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor could still go from strength to strength with Celtic looking more impressive by the week.
“Celtic are looking good, they’ve started the season really well. The worrying thing from my point of view is that I think Celtic are more attack minded than ever,” McCoist told talkSPORT (27 September, 9.30am).
“They didn’t even play particularly well (in that 2-0 win at Rangers). Christie and McGregor, they can play better.”
Rangers went into Steven Gerrard’s second season at the helm dreaming of bringing an end to Celtic’s domination of the Scottish game after eight successive Premiership titles.
But with Lennon’s side winning eight games out of nine since that horror night against Cluj, scoring 22 goals in that time, they will take some stopping.
