Glasgow Rangers legend Lee McCulloch has his say on Ibrox forward Alfredo Morelos

Glasgow Rangers fans have been split down the middle regarding Ibrox forward Morelos due to his prolific goalscoring but poor disciplinary record.

Glasgow Rangers legend Lee McCulloch has piled the praise on Ibrox forward Alfredo Morelos for a “terrific” season and the “real achievement” of getting 30 goals in all competitions this term.

The Colombia international has split opinion down the middle amongst Rangers fans and neutrals alike this term due to his impressive contributions to the Ibrox team – as well as his 30 goals, he also has 11 assists (Transfermarkt) – but also his poor disciplinary record.

Morelos has been sent off five times this season, albeit with one red card being rescinded, and his latest dismissal – in March’s defeat to Celtic – saw him banned for four games, which appears to have been a factor in his failure to be named in Colombia’s Copa America team.

After praising the 22-year-old, however, McCulloch admitted that he is unsure what decision Rangers might look to take on the player in the summer – to either keep hold of him ahead of next season or sell him if they get a substantial bid for him.

“Morelos has a had a terrific season overall,” the Gers legend wrote in the Glasgow Evening Times. “A lot of people pick up on the negatives of his disciplinary record and his attitude, but I like to focus on the positives in terms of his performances and his goals and you can’t deny how important a player he has been for Rangers.

To get to 30 goals is a real achievement, especially when he is in a team that haven’t won anything. He has been brilliant and he is only going to get better as well… it will be interesting to see what happens in the summer and whether Rangers try to hold on to him or sell him on if they get a substantial bid for him. We will wait and see.”

Morelos has been on the books of the Ibrox club since July 2017, when he joined from Finnish side HJK Helsinki for a £1.08million fee, according to Transfermarkt.
