Rangers fans may remember Lassana Coulibaly’s time at Ibrox and will be surprised to hear that Nottingham Forest now want him.

Rangers signed their fair share of flops during the Steven Gerrard era.

The likes of Eros Grezda, Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie spring to mind and have failed to get back to the level of Ranger since leaving Ibrox.

Yet there are a couple of cases of players actually kicking on and improving after struggling at Rangers.

Striker Umar Sadiq has been a goal machine since leaving Rangers and midfielder Lassana Coulibaly is now in line for a Premier League move.

Ex-Rangers midfielder Lassana Coulibaly wanted by Nottingham Forest

Rangers pounced to sign midfielder Lassana Coulibaly on loan from Angers and arrived with a big billing.

Steven Gerrard talked up Coulibaly as a ‘destroyer’ in midfield and felt that he would bring power to the Rangers engine room.

The Malian midfielder started well at Rangers but when his loan spell came to an end, there was no permanent move on offer.

Coulibaly returned to Angers but was then sent off to Cercle Brugge for the 2019-20 season before eventually joining Salernitana in 2021.

Coulibaly played in Serie A last season and has played well enough in Italy’s top flight to now earn Premier League interest.

Salerno Today report that Nottingham Forest want to sign Coulibaly having also been watching his Salernitana teammate Boulaye Dia.

It’s suggested that Salernitana want around €8million (£7million) for Coulibaly, a valuation Rangers fans couldn’t have possibly seen coming back in 2019.

Nottingham Forest think that is a little too much right now so it’s unclear whether Coulibaly will land his Premier League move.

You would think that nothing could surprise Rangers fans anymore after Sadiq moved for over £20million to Real Sociedad over the summer.

Yet if Coulibaly secured himself a Premier League move, that may just be up there for the Gers fanbase as a real shocker.
