Rangers legend Kris Boyd surprised by Andy King’s Ibrox arrival

Glasgow Rangers have brought the Leicester and Wales midfielder to Ibrox on loan.

Glasgow Rangers legend Kris Boyd has admitted that he’s surprised to see Andy King join the Ibrox club, claiming that Steven Gerrard already has “loads of midfielders” at his disposal (Sky Sports).

In addition, the Gers cult hero has reiterated the Light Blues’ need for a new left-back, outlining that position as one that Ibrox should prioritise instead of bringing in a new centre-mid.

King, who won the 2015-16 English Premier League title with Leicester City, was officially confirmed as a Rangers player after Gerrard’s charges claimed a 3-1 Europa League third qualifying round win over Midtjylland (official Rangers website).

The 30-year-old is Leicester’s top scoring midfielder and has made over 375 appearances for the Foxes, winning championships in the top three divisions in England, as well as being a Wales international with 50 caps, including being part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the Euro 2016.

Despite his credentials, however, former Rangers goal machine Boyd suggested that there may not be much need forhim in the Ibrox ranks, telling Sky Sports programme The Debate and also quoted in the Scottish Sun: “In that central midfield, they’ve got bodies so it’s a bit of a surprise signing for me.

“I’ve been pretty vocal, Rangers need a left-back… If I were spending anymore money [at Ibrox], I’d have looked to get a left-back in. There’s loads of midfielders.”

At present, the Gers have Borna Barisic, who according to Boyd doesn’t seem to be trusted by Gerrard as he “plays some games, he’s out for others”; Andy Halliday (“it’s unfair for him to play there every week”); and Jon Flanagan (“a right-footed player playing at left-back”).
