Championship side Dundee beat Kilmarnock 2-1 last night in the first leg of the Premiership Relegation Playoff final at Dens Park – and Rangers fans hope they can finish the job and get rid of Killie’s ‘shoddy’ artificial pitch.

Ex-Ger Charlie Adam scored the winner for Dundee in terrible conditions with the second leg set to take place on Monday – leaving Kilmarnock 90 minutes away from ending their 28-year stint in the top flight.

Rangers fans have long loathed the artificial pitches used around the league, but with Hamilton already relegated it could leave Livingston’s Tony Macaroni Arena as the only plastic surface in the Premiership in 2021/22.

Killie’s pitch in particular has a really bad reputation with fans after Jamie Murphy suffered a serious knee injury, effectively ending his Rangers career, while the Gers have sometimes struggled to perform on the plastic.

There has been a little bit of bad blood between the clubs in recent years too after Kilmarnock slashed the ticket allocation given to Rangers fans, leaving thousands of empty seats at Rugby Park, while Gers fans still remember Scotland boss Steve Clarke taking a pop at them while in charge of the Ayrshire side.

After the Dee took a lead into Monday’s second leg, Rangers fans hope they can maintain their advantage and secure a return to the Premiership – and banish Killie’s artificial pitch to the Championship.
