Kenny McLean won’t be joining Rangers this year but the Norwich City midfielder would love to sign for the Gers one day..

The Scottish Daily Express reported in November that Rangers were considering a move to bring Norwich ace McLean to Ibrox.

The midfielder is linked with Rangers every year at this point but it felt like this could be the right moment.

McLean was set to become a free agent at the end of the season and Rangers were exploring a pre-contract agreement.

However, McLean then signed a new contract with Norwich just a few days later and has committed himself to the Canaries until 2025.

That means a move to Rangers isn’t going to happen once again despite the repeated speculation.

This has been going on for years now, even back to McLean’s time at Aberdeen.

Well, McLean seems to think it may happen one day even if it has never actually been all that close to happening so far.

McLean has told the Talk Norwich City podcast that he is constantly being asked about signing for Rangers with ex-Gers striker Kris Boyd sending in the question.

The midfielder admitted that there has just never been anything on the table for him to actually make the move to Ibrox.

McLean added that he would love to re-sign for Rangers one day, noting that his family would be ‘over the moon’ if he makes the move.

“I get asked that so much, honestly,” said McLean when quizzed about signing for Rangers. “No, not really. There’s always talk. But there’s never been anything in front of me saying ‘there you go,’ pulling on my heart strings. In the past there has been more than just paper talk.”

“It’s never materialised into anything. Would I love it one day? Of course. If you’re brought up and that’s who you support then of course I would. My family would be over the moon I’m sure,” he added.

McLean turns 31 in January and the window for a move to Rangers may be closing very soon.

Still, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor both returned to Rangers well into their 30’s and McLean – who did start in the Ibrox ranks – could follow suit.

The new contract certainly complicates matters but if Rangers make a move for McLean one day, he would surely jump at the chance.
