Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers thumped QoS on Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Matt Gilks has hailed Martyn Waghorn in an interview with Rangers’ official YouTube channel.
The 26-year-old hitman netted a hat-trick in Tuesday night’s 5-0 demolition of Queen of the South at Ibrox, as Rangers reached a League Cup semi-final.
All three of Waghorn’s goals were scored in a ruthless second-half showing in which the ex-Wigan man – who now has eight goals in seven games – demonstrated just how lethal he is on his left foot.
But that comes as little surprise to Gilks, who claims that he and his Rangers team-mates know full well how proficient the striker is in front of goal.
“He wants to score goals and tonight he’s hit the net three times. He’s got a wand of a left foot and obviously in training you see it everyday, so it’s great to see it on the pitch,” he told Rangers’ official YouTube channel.
The Gers dominated the first half against the Championship leaders, but only Jason Holt’s 33rd-minute opener separated the sides.
Andy Halliday, captain on the night, added a second after the hour mark, before Waghorn netted three times in the final 27 minutes.
