Rangers want Kai Meriluoto as they eye another raid on Finnish football some five years since signing Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsinki.

The Gers need many signings this summer but really have to focus on adding more attacking talent.

It looks like PAOK striker Antonio Colak will be joining for £1.8million very soon having travelled for a medical.

Yet Rangers may still look for more attacking talent, maybe with an eye towards the future.

Five years after Rangers raided HJK Helsinki for Morelos, history could repeat itself…

Rangers want Kai Meriluoto

Finnish TV station MTV Uutiset report that Rangers are now keen on bringing striker Kai Meriluoto to Ibrox.

It’s stated that Rangers have now expressed their interest in signing Meriluoto from HJK Helsinki.

Meriluoto is on loan at Ilves and has turned heads after hitting six goals in 11 games there.

Several other clubs outside of Finland are understood to be keen on signing Meriluoto too, but it’s Rangers who made their interest known.

Meriluoto, 19, is considered to be one of the top young talents in Finnish football and is backed for a big future.

After an impressive goalscoring record with Klubi 04, HJK pounced for Meriluoto in 2020 but first-team action has been hard to come by.

Now shining with Ilves, Meriluoto is on the Rangers radar as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Morelos.

Rangers raided HJK to sign Morelos in 2017, and the Colombian has become a star with 112 goals in 224 outings for the Gers.

Rangers also signed another Colombian attacker last year as Juan Alegria joined from a Finnish club in Honka.

The interest in Meriluoto therefore makes perfect sense with Rangers seemingly keeping a close eye on the Finnish market – and he may be a name to keep a close eye on.
