Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are benefiting from Josh Windass’s upturn in form.
Josh Windass has revealed to Rangers TV that he benefits from the tough love that manager Graeme Murty sends his way in training.
The 23-year-old is arguably Rangers’ most improved player since Murty took the reins following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October.
The former Accrington attacker has netted five Premiership goals this season but four have come under the 43-year-old, whose decision to play him at number 10 rather than the wing looks like a masterstroke.
But although Windass reveals that Murty is often complimentary toward him, he claims that the Gers boss can also “hammer” him when the time calls for it.
“I’ve known Murty for quite a while now,” he told Rangers TV.
“He gives me a lot of confidence, he praises my performances and he hammers me if I’m not playing very well. But I think that’s what you need, you need a lot of honesty.”
Murty will now stay on in his role at Ibrox until the end of the season after only supposed to be a stop-gap between Caixinha and the Portuguese’s replacement.
But the Gers’ botched attempt to hire Derek McInnes has seen them run out of options, meaning that the former Reading defender has got the job until May at least.
