Rangers midfielder Josh Windass appears to have taken a swipe at England Under-21 manager Aidy Bothroyd.
The 23-year-old Rangers ace has intimated on Twitter that England’s youngsters are becoming “robots” after responding to an article in which Bothroyd called on his team to curb their habit for showboating ahead of tonight’s clash with Andorra.
In the article, the former Watford boss told The Daily Mail: “My players are so skilful and comfortable on the ball, but one of my biggest concerns is that sometimes they can be too elaborate.
“I keep telling them that we are not the Harlem Globetrotters and we are not here to do tricks and fanny around.”
And the former Accrington Stanley ace has suggested on Twitter that it isn’t healthy to restrict the players’ in this regard.
Windass was born in England but has never represented his country at any level and unless he develops into an outstanding player then he is unlikely to win a cap.
Celtic winger Scott Sinclair – the SFA Player of the Year last season – does not even get a look-in despite impressive performances domestically and in the Champions League for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
Bothroyd led the Hornets to Premier League promotion in 2006 and has previously managed England at Under-19 and Under-20 level.
