Rangers’ Josh Windass claims Old Firm defeat was best experience of his life

Mark Warburton tasted defeat in his first Old Firm clash in the Scottish Premiership as Glasgow Rangers were thrashed 5-1.

Josh Windass has surprisingly claimed that he loved every minute of Rangers’ 5-1 defeat to Celtic and that it was the best experience of his life, the Evening Times reports.

Mark Warburton’s men endured a torrid time at Parkhead as a Moussa Dembele hat-trick inspired the Hoops to the emphatic victory that also saw Philippe Senderos sent off in comical fashion, and Gers assistant David Weir sent to the stands.

But despite the huge disappointment regarding the result, Windass – who was appearing in an Old Firm game for the first time – insisted that he cannot wait for the next fixture to come around.

“To be honest, after the game I just wanted to play it again the day after. I loved every minute of it. I know we lost the game but experience and everything, I loved every minute of it,” he told the Evening Times.

“As a footballer you want to play in those games. It was the best experience of my life so far. We got beat and it was horrible but I can’t wait for the next game and the one after that. But until then we will take it game by game.”

While some Light Blues fans will be somewhat disappointed after hearing one of their players come away from such an embarrassing defeat with such a positive opinion, if there was a player on the away side who could be allowed to feel that way, it was surely the 22-year-old.

The former Accrington Stanley man was arguably Rangers’ best player on the day, often temporarily releasing some of the pressure on the defence by taking the ball on an enterprising run up the field.

And Gers supporters will be hoping that he can replicate that kind of display in future Old Firm games, because if his teammates can match his level, then perhaps everyone associated with the Ibrox club will come away from the game feeling as positive as Windass feels this time around.
