Glasgow Rangers ace Ryan Jack is not in the Scotland team but Ibrox legend Derek Johnstone is looking on the bright side.

Glasgow Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has admitted to the Evening Times that he is pleased to see Ryan Jack absent from the Scotland squad as it means the Ibrox ace will get more rest following a busy season at club level.
The 27-year-old Rangers midfielder has impressed for Steven Gerrard’s side in 2018-19, making 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and notching up five assists (Transfermarkt).
Jack has won two caps for Scotland so far, both in friendlies, against the Netherlands and Belgium in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and following his fruitful campaign in the season just gone, it was hoped he could add to his tally this summer.
However, new national team boss Steve Clarke did not include a single Gers player for the country’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifying matches with Cyprus and Belgium.

Despite Jack having done more than enough to justify a place in the team, which Johnstone feels is the case, he also believes it’s a case of every cloud having a silver lining.
“Ryan, on his performances, deserved a place in the squad and I am sure he would have been pleased if he had been called on for the games with Cyprus and Belgium,” he wrote in the Evening Times. “But I am delighted that he is not there and that he is getting a rest to be at his best for Rangers going into the new season.”
Steven Gerrard’s side are heading to Portugal for a nine-day training camp and then have a busy pre-season fixture list with European games in between, as noted by the Daily Record.
