The Glasgow Rangers boss had an impressive first season at Ibrox but is being linked with clubs south of the border.

Glasgow Rangers legend Derek Johnstone has shared his theory regarding Steven Gerrard’s future at Ibrox and it’s something which will be music to the ears of all Bears (Evening Times).
The Liverpool legend joined the Gers last summer and had a bright debut season in management, with definite progress being shown by the Light Blues on and off the pitch.
Although they were unable to deny their bitter rivals from winning the domestic treble once again, two Old Firm victories at Ibrox are testament to how the two teams are becoming more and more evenly matched as time goes on.
As a result, optimism is high amongst the Rangers fanbase, and with some discontent amongst the fans of the rival team regarding their managerial appointment and a bloated squad featuring a lot of surplus players, next season could, just maybe, be the one in which number 55 comes along.
However, there has been speculation linking Gerrard to Derby County – whose current manager, Frank Lampard, is rumoured to be on the radar of Chelsea – while the Anfield legend’s obvious association with Liverpool hints at a potential switch back to Merseyside in the long term future.

Johnstone’s take on it, however, is that the retired midfield ace is not the kind of individual to leave a mission incomplete – that is, in this case, bring glory back to Ibrox.
“With Frank Lampard’s future at Derby in doubt as Chelsea search for a new manager, you can see why Gerrard’s name would come up,” wrote Johnstone in the Evening Times. “But he won’t be leaving Rangers for Derby. If he wanted to work in the Championship, I’m sure he could have done so long before now.
“If Steven is successful at Rangers, there is every chance that Liverpool will come back in for him in the future and he becomes manager at Anfield at some stage. That won’t happen until he is winning leagues and winning cups here, though. His name will be linked with jobs but he isn’t the kind of man that will leave for the first offer that comes along.”
