Rangers have made their first move for Hearts defender John Souttar as they hope to convince him to snub English interest in favour of Ibrox.
The Glasgow Times claim that Rangers have now decided to make a move and open talks with Souttar over a switch.
Out of contract at the end of the season, Souttar can now discuss a pre-contract agreement to leave Hearts this summer.
A move to England has seemed like the priority of late. Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest are among the English clubs interested in Souttar.
However, Rangers have decided to join in and have now made their first move to sign Souttar.
Souttar, 25, has bounced back from three major achilles injuries to enjoy a superb season with Hearts.
Rangers have Connor Goldson out of contract at the end of the season, with the Englishman potentially on his way out.
Leon Balogun is also out of contract this summer, Jack Simpson could be on his way out this month and Nikola Katic’s Rangers future is unclear.
That’s why Rangers are now looking to sign Souttar – branded ‘incredible’ by Kyle Lafferty – as he can offer vital depth at a key position moving forward.
Signing Souttar won’t be easy given the battle for his signature, but Rangers are at least making their move.
