Rangers are signing John Souttar this summer – and he has been hailed for his performance for Hearts against the Gers on Saturday afternoon.

The Gers played in yet another final having lost on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt in Wednesday’s Europa League final.

On Saturday it was the Scottish Cup final against Hearts at Hampden Park.

A 0-0 draw in 90 minutes may have left Rangers fans fearing another defeat, but the Gers came through with a 2-0 victory.

Ryan Jack’s screamer and a Scott Wright goal handed Rangers the win and the Scottish Cup trophy, giving Giovanni van Bronckhorst his first piece of silverware at Ibrox.

Rangers are signing John Souttar this summer

Beating Hearts meant going up against defender John Souttar, who was passed fit to play against Rangers after another battle with injury.

Souttar’s injury record has been a problem in recent years and he was in a race against time for two meetings with Rangers.

Having spent more than two months out of action, Souttar returned against Rangers on the final day of the season.

Souttar was then able to start the cup final too with no sign of split allegiances.

Souttar has signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers and will soon become a Gers players.

The defender was giving nothing to Rangers on Saturday though and has been hailed for his performance.

The Sun rated Souttar as 9/10, praising him for winning ‘almost everything’ against Rangers.

The Scotsman even hailed Souttar as ‘immense’ having been strong defensively and ‘confident’ on the ball.

Souttar was also praised as ‘immense’ by The Edinburgh Evening News with major praise coming in for his display.

That has to be encouraging for Rangers, who may need Souttar to replace Connor Goldson in their back line next season.
