Rangers midfielder has had his say after a dig from Celtic’s Scott Brown.
Burnley’s Joey Barton celebrates promotion
Joey Barton has not shied away from creating headlines since signing for Rangers, recently claiming Celtic captain Scott Brown was ‘not in his league’.
Brown met the media yesterday at a press conference and it was little surprise to see him asked about Barton’s comments.
Quoted by The BBC, Brown responded, trying to keep it friendly, but also taking a little dig at the fact Joey Barton once claimed to prefer Celtic to Rangers.
Celtic’s Scott Brown celebrates scoring their first goal
Brown said: “I’ve not been in his league, he’s in my league.
“I think we’ll get on really well, him being a Celtic fan, so I think we’ll get on great.”
Barton is a character who always likes to have his say whether it is required or not, and he took to Twitter to address Scott Brown’s comments, and once again defend himself.
Barton is of course referring to a photo which recently surfaced reportedly showing Scott Brown as a youngster… wearing a Rangers kit.
Certainly wearing a shirt of the opposition no matter the age, trumps simply saying you simply support one, and Brown may be ruing choosing the particular plan of attack he did at Barton, who seemingly was well prepared.
The two players have to wait a month until after the season kicks off for their first meeting, and there are surely plenty more words to be said beforehand.
Even so, bring on September 10…
