The January window is still some weeks away, but Rangers may have already teed up something of a coup with a move for Blackburn Rovers ace Joe Rothwell.
TEAMtalk claim that Rangers are nearing a deal to sign Rothwell on a pre-contract agreement during the January window.
Rothwell’s contract at Blackburn ends next summer, so he will be able to sign a pre-contract deal with a non-English club from January 1st.
The report claims that Leeds United, Newcastle United, Burnley, Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace all want to sign Rothwell.
Right now though, it’s stated that Rothwell is leaning towards joining Rangers for free in 2022.
Rothwell a coup if Rangers secure deal
Just look at the teams Rangers are allegedly beating. Leeds have one of the true coaching legends of the game in Marcelo Bielsa.
Newcastle have just secured a huge takeover and look set to go and splash the cash on a number of big names over the coming years.
Imagine being a part of that project? Rothwell could play a part in a Newcastle rise by making the move to St James’ Park.

Instead, he wants Ibrox. That’s a major statement in itself, with Rangers potentially able to fend off Premier League clubs for a key signing.
Rothwell himself is a real talent. Formerly of Manchester United, the 26-year-old is a fantastic dribbler and can create from out wide or as a number 10.
Branded ‘devastating’ by Rovers boss Tony Mowbray, Rothwell now looks ready for a big move away.
Rangers now seem confident of signing him, and this could be a huge transfer win over the likes of Leeds and Newcastle whilst giving Steven Gerrard the additional creativity Rangers need.
