Rangers are plotting a move to sign Blackburn Rovers ace Joe Rothwell as he approaches the end of the end of his contract at Ewood Park.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Rangers are hoping to bring Rothwell to Ibrox in 2022.
Rangers allegedly plan to ‘get serious’ in the next transfer window. That means both cash signings and pre-contract agreements will be targeted.
Rothwell could be sold in January before he leaves for free, with Rangers able to offer him a pre-contract agreement in January.
Who is Rangers target Joe Rothwell?
Rothwell came up through the ranks with hometown club Manchester United.
After spending 15 years with the Red Devils, Rothwell joined Oxford United in 2016.
Rothwell impressed with Oxford, earning a move back to the north as he joined Blackburn.
Rothwell has never really been a goalscorer; just eight in 130 games for Blackburn.
He has though been creative, and already has three assists for Rovers this season.

What has been said about Rothwell?
Primarily a number 10 with impressive dribbling ability, Rothwell has earned praise from Tony Mowbray.
Blackburn’s former Celtic boss has told Lancs Live that he thinks Rothwell is a ‘super talent’ and even a ‘Premier League talent’.
Mowbray called Rothwell’s dribbling ability ‘amazing’, believing he can play in the top flight like Adam Armstrong.
If Rangers can land Rothwell on the cheap or even for free, this could be a coup for Steven Gerrard.
