Rangers winger Joe Dodoo left Ibrox to join Charlton on loan in the summer.
It has been difficult for Rangers winger Joe Dodoo since Mark Warburton decided to land the versatile winger on a permanent basis from Premier League side Leicester City in the summer of 2016.
Of his 25 appearances during 2016-17 at Ibrox, 19 were substitute appearances and although he showed glimpses of proper talent, his five goals throughout the season failed to overshadow an obvious lack of experience.
It saw the 22-year-old join English League One side Charlton Athletic in the summer, where it was a similar tale. A goal on his debut against Oldham Athletic suggested so much, but just six appearances later, he has returned to Ibrox.
However, it seems as though that despite all of that, Graeme Murty is to give the Ghana-born England Under-18 international another chance to shine in the Light Blue of Rangers’ home strip.
A 19-minute cameo role against Highland League minnows Fraserburgh gave Dodoo the perfect chance to re-enter the Rangers mould despite the form of Daniel Candeias and January signings Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings.
He was then afforded a place on the bench against Hibernian, which suggests that Murty has decided to bring the outcast in from the cold and give him the chance to finally show why he was brought to Glasgow.
The Gers certainly are lacking in width. Other than Candeias and Murphy, they have little to offer out wide with Josh Windass preferred up front as he continues to prove profitable in the final third.
But adding Dodoo into the mix, who can play up front or out wide, could be a huge boost for both parties as the Gers look to find a player that can finally push them towards a title race with Old Firm rivals Celtic.
A Tuesday night meet with Partick Thistle could give Murty the chance to throw Dodoo in at the deep end for his first Scottish Premiership appearance since May 2017.
