Rangers want Jerry Yates but only value him at £2million – some way short of Blackpool’s £5million valuation of the striker.

The Gers look like a team in need of some direction in 2023.

Boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under huge pressure but so is director of football Ross Wilson after some mixed recruitment.

Rangers need a strong January window and a striker may be a priority.

Alfredo Morelos is out of contract at the end of the season and Antonio Colak will need more help in the final third.

Rangers want Jerry Yates

One name heavily linked of late is that of Blackpool striker Jerry Yates.

The Scottish Sun reported in October that Rangers had been to scout Yates in action for Blackpool against bitter rivals Preston North End.

Yates was outstanding on that day, scoring twice to give the Tangerines a 4-2 win.

Rangers may see Yates as a vital attacking addition but they will have to cough up for his signature.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Blackpool are now ready to sell Yates as they look to cash in and reinvest in their struggling squad.

However, Blackpool are seeking around £5million for Yates and Rangers allegedly only want to pay around £2million, with an offer now expected.

Yates is contract until the summer of 2024 with the option of another year, so Blackpool are in a strong position to demand big money.

Yates, 26, has hit nine goals and two assists in 21 games for Blackpool this season and Championship clubs will be very keen.

Hailed as ‘fantastic’ by pundit Michael Dawson, Yates has been turning heads at Blackpool and could be on the move soon.

The door is open for Rangers to swoop in and strike a deal with Blackpool but they may need to more than double their valuation in order to secure a January move.
