Rangers want Jerry Yates and Blackpool boss Michael Appleton has suggested that the attacker is focused on the Tangerines.

The Gers again need to be in the market for another striker.

Antonio Colak has been scoring regularly since his arrival over the summer but Alfredo Morelos looks set to leave.

The Colombian hitman is out of contract at the end of the season and may choose too leave Ibrox for absolutely nothing.

That would leave Rangers short of goalscoring talent and they need to be ready to find another attacker in 2023.

Rangers want Jerry Yates

One of the key names in the mix right now is Blackpool forward Yates.

The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers scouted Yates in action for Blackpool against bitter rivals Preston North End last weekend.

Yates scored twice as Blackpool claimed a 4-2 win at Bloomfield Road and his form is attracting Rangers’ interest.

The 25-year-old scored again on Saturday as Blackpool beat Coventry City 2-1.

Yates has now smashed seven goals in his last five games and seems almost unstoppable right now.

Formerly of Rotherham United, Yates is now attracting lofty interest and Rangers could launch a move in 2023.

It was suggested that Yates will cost around £5million but he will hit the final 18 months of his contract in January.

With Rangers now lurking and potentially ready to offer Yates a big move, Blackpool boss Appleton has offered his view on the striker.

Speaking to Lancs Live, Appleton suggested that he has been getting more out of Yates by moving him from playing as a centre forward to more of a wide role.

Appleton praised Yates for his pace and energy as well as his personally, and believes Yates ‘will be fine’ amid speculation surrounding a possible move to Rangers.

“He’s capable of dealing with the ball with his back to goal as you need to as a nine, he’s got lots of pace and energy as a nine if you could do it as well in terms of the full package,” Appleton said. “But I just think playing off the line, off the side it takes a little bit less responsibility and there’s a lot of responsibility on Gaz [Madine] when the ball goes up to him to get hold of it, get us into the game and up the pitch, taking that little bit of responsibility away from Jerry seems to have worked.

“I’m delighted for him, he’s in a fantastic vein of form, he deserves all the plaudits he’s getting and the biggest thing for me is to keep on top of him and not let him let up in any way, shape or form and keep performing the way he is. I don’t see Jerry being the deep-thinking type or worrying too much about things, he’s so larger than life and so jovial when he’s around people. I don’t see him going away and thinking too hard and worrying too much about situations, I think he just loves playing football.”

“I think that’s how he plays the game, he just loves it and you can see how much it means to him when he scores, when the team win, when the other players in the team score he’s always the loudest and the first to the man who scored the goal. I think he’ll be fine Jerry to be fair,” he added.
